BA (Hons) Primary Education Studies

The BA Hons Primary Education Studies is designed to provide a supportive and creative learning environment so as for students to become competent, confident, creative, and motivated primary teachers with an in-depth pedagogical knowledge and sensitivity towards contemporary educational issues. The programme provides students with the appropriate equipment and a broad, balanced experience of subjects that will enable them to deliver high quality teaching for all children in any primary educational setting and develop strong identity as primary teachers. The programme reflects key areas of teachers’ professional responsibilities such as core subject curriculum and pedagogy, educational theory drawing upon the methods of psychology, child development, and practical school placement.

Admission criteria

Applicants, in order to be considered for admission should have a Greek Secondary School Diploma / ‘Apolyterion of Lykeio’ or equivalent (e.g., International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate, etc.) with a grade 10 or above. This requirement is in line with the Greek government’s minimum standard for access to higher education.

 

In addition, for the BA Primary Education programme only, applicants to be considered for admission should hold a Greek Secondary School Diploma / ‘Apolyterion of Lykeio’ or equivalent (e.g., International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate, etc.) with a grade of 12 or above. This is comparable to the average successful entrant in the equivalent programme offered at Greek state universities. 

 

High school leaving certificates issued by vocational Lyceums, such as TEE or EPAL and foreign certificates which are equivalent to the Greek Lyceum certificate (e.g. International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate, etc.) are also accepted.

 

Non-native Greek speakers, may be admitted to the programme on demonstrating that:

 

a) They hold a qualification recognised by Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ for admission to undergraduate programmes, as documented in the University Admissions Regulations.

b) They hold a certificate of attainment in Greek at Level Î’2
