The Society has appointed the academics to the RSE Young Academy of Scotland - a project which shares knowledge and practical experience to help Scotland address the challenges facing society.  

������Ƶ’s Dr Marcia Vera Espinoza, Deputy Director for the Institute for Global Health and Development; Dr Anthony Schrag, Senior Lecturer of Media, Communications and Performing Arts; and Dr Karin Diaconu, Reader for the Institute for Global Health and Development, join 45 other entrepreneurs, academics and professionals as this year’s latest Young Academy of Scotland members. 

Marcia, Anthony, and Karin will join the existing cohort to help investigate pressing social issues, inform public debate, amplify marginalised voices, and drive transformational change. It is hoped that their input will help people and policymakers across the country make positive changes to tackle some of the most pressing issues that face Scotland.

The Young Academy of Scotland was established by the in 2011 to provide a platform for innovative young professionals from all areas of academia, business, third sector organisations and public life, to work together to address the most challenging issues facing Scotland and beyond. 

Its greatest strength is the diversity of its membership. Ranging in age from mid-twenties to early-forties, its members come from a wide range of backgrounds and represent communities from all over the country. With access to resources and expertise in many different sectors, from animation to brain surgery, YAS is uniquely positioned to research and tackle complex problems, both short- and long-term.

“Throughout our history, Queen Margaret University has always been driven to find solutions to the issues which face our society, and these appointments recognise Dr Vera Espinoza, Dr Diaconu and Dr Schrag’s talent and their work in making a different to the world around them. This is a great achievement for our three incredibly hard-working and dedicated academics, and we look forward to seeing how they contribute and collaborate on exciting work which will make a real impact on the lives of others.”
